2 men land in police net for vandalizing electricity transformer, cables in Yobe

Operatives of the Yobe State Police Command arrested two suspected electricity transformer thieves at Sabon Gari in Gashua, Bade local government area of the state.
A statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed that the Yusufari Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended two suspects.
The suspects, 23-year-old Kabiru Ibrahim and Abubakar Abubakar, 24, both residents of Sabon Garin of Bade LGA were nabbed for dismantling transformer components and cables at Sunomari Area of Yusufari Town.
According to the PPRO, the suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence, and both have confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Abdulkarim added that several stolen electricity items were recovered from the suspects as he stressed that investigation was ongoing for subsequent prosecution.
Information gathered that the youths of the community expressed outrage over the suspects’ actions, describing it as habitual.
The enraged youths also set a motorcycle belonging to one of the suspects on fire and attempted lynching them.
The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado condemned the act of vandalism and urged the community to maintain restraint by allowing the law to take its course.

He emphasised that the Command would not condone lawlessness and assured that justice would be served through due process.
The CP further called on the people to always report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security formation in their areas.
