A shocking tragedy has hit the Ngwo community in Enugu State after a 17-year-old, Ikedi Obodo Agu, was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and murdering his five-year-old cousin, Wisdom. The incident occurred after a failed attempt to sell the young boy for a ritual.
According to the report, Ikedi lured Wisdom away while the child was playing hide-and-seek. Investigations revealed that Ikedi then handed the boy over to a private security guard, claiming they were looking for a buyer for ritual purposes.
When a buyer didn’t show up, Ikedi reportedly changed his plan to a ransom scheme. He initially demanded ₦15 million from the family before reducing the amount to ₦200,000 and then ₦40,000. However, the family insisted on hearing their son’s voice before paying.

Fearing he would be exposed, Ikedi allegedly killed Wisdom by clubbing him before burying his body in a bush near his father’s house. Reports indicate the boy had been tied and blindfolded before his death.
The case came to light after community member Emmanuel Chinedu Ozoagu shared the details on Facebook. Ozoagu wrote that police tracked the ransom calls to the security guard and arrested both Ikedi and his accomplice.
During interrogation, Ikedi led officers to the gravesite. Witnesses said he narrowly escaped being attacked by a mob before the police took him away.

Wisdom’s body was later exhumed and given a “respectful and befitting burial” by the community. Ozoagu offered his condolences to the grieving family, expressing hope that such a tragedy would never happen again.
Attempts to get an official statement from Enugu State Police Command spokesman SP Daniel Ndukwe were unsuccessful. The case has left the Ngwo community in mourning and sparked new discussions about youth crime and ritual violence in the region.
